The family of Cedrika Provencher marked the two-year anniversary of her disappearance with a special mass at L'Eglise Notre Dame du Cap in Trois Rivieres Friday night.

Provencher was nine-years-old when she vanished from Trois Rivieres on July 31, 2007. The young girl with was last seen asking people in her neighbourhood if they had seen a lost dog.

Her family is still holding out hope that she's alive and will return home.

"I always hope Cedrika is somewhere. I'm sure she'll come back soon," said Henri Provencher, Cedrika's grandfather.

Despite a massive police investigation, thousands of tips from around the world, and offers of up to $170, 0000 for solid information, the trail remains cold.

Family wants Quebec to create a special task force

Cedrika Provencher's family wants the provincial government to create a special task force to investigate cases of missing children.

The family has criticized authorities for the way in which abductions are handled, saying the process is sometimes too slow.

Pina Arcamone, executive director of the Missing Children's Network, said the organization supports the Provencher family's efforts.

"We want better communication, rapid, effective intervention, and better training for police officers."
