After years of negotations ending in a five-day round-the-clock marathon session, 12 nations including Canada have reached a massive free trade deal called the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
The trade agreement affects many industries in Canada, most notably the automobile manufacturing industry and farming.
Pork, beef and canola farmers expect to see the largest impact, although it appears Canada's dairy industry will be able to maintain its supply-management cartel.
The TPP also creates international standards for many trade issues, which is of particular concern in Asia.
The exact details of the agreement have not been released, since the final text of the trade pact still needs to undergo legal review.
The trade deal will need to be ratified by the governments of the 12 Asia-Pacific countries involved before it comes into effect.
The NDP is opposed to the deal, while the Conservative Party is, obviously, in full agreement. The Liberal party has said it will review the actual deal before making any decision.
