Dr. John Bray, a well-known West Island doctor who served the Pointe Claire community for more than three decades, has died.

Bray was a popular obstetrician-gynecologist in the West Island. He had more than 30 years of experience and was an advocate for women's health.

A few years ago he pushed for shorter wait times for cancer treatments. Some of his patients were suffering from ovarian cancer and waiting months for operations. Bray kept calling hospitals trying to move treatments up.

Marla Newhook said he helped her find other medical specialists when she didn't have a general practitioner to make those recommendations. He delivered both of her children and kept her calm when her son was in the breech position.

“Dr. Bray was the type of doctor who was very calming, he put your mind at ease even though you were not very calm,” she said, adding he always put his patients first.

His many patients and friends are remembering him fondly on Facebook, saying he became a friend as well as a doctor. Some people noted he would often deliver his patients' babies himself instead of leaving it to the rotation doctor.

CTV has confirmed Dr. John Bray, an obstetrician-gynecologist who worked on the West Island for more than 30 years, has died. Did he deliver you or your children? Let us know.
