Four people were hurt by a fire that was deliberately set at a Cote des Neiges apartment building.

The arsonist started the fire in the basement of a building on Goyer St. near Wilderton Ave. around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

The flames and smoke quickly spread throughout the building, and three people had to be treated for smoke inhalation.

A fourth person was hurt jumping to safety from a balcony.

Montreal firefighters said they found several points of origin for the fire, which has convinced them the fire was set on purpose.

The Red Cross and Sun Youth are providing temporary shelter for the 50 people who lived in the 24-unit apartment building until they are allowed to return home.
