Michael Applebaum's office says there is no truth to the rumours the mayor will form an alliance with former Bloc Quebecois leader Gilles Duceppe to run for mayor of Montreal in 2013.

There are reports Thursday that the pair would team up, presumably with Duceppe as mayoral candidate and Applebaum as his second-in-command.

The mayor's office said there is no such "alliance" with Duceppe, and nothing planned.

Applebaum has said he will not run as mayor of Montreal in 2013, and will likely run again for the post of Borough mayor of Cote des Neiges/Notre Dame de Grace.

Sources within the office speculate the rumours come from Applebaum, Duceppe, Denis Coderre and Pauline Marois attended an event two weeks ago.

The mayor is also interviewing candidates for a new chief of staff, one of whom is a person close to Duceppe.
