Days after leaving the Alouettes training camp "for personal reasons" the football team has suspended Michael Sam.

Six other players were cut, and one player was put on the injured list.

Sam, the rookie defensive end who made headlines after announcing he was gay before being drafted by the NFL, came to Montreal less than a month ago to try out for the Alouettes.

He left on Friday, before the Als' first pre-season game, where in a match against the Ottawa Redblacks the Alouettes won 26-9.

The Alouettes have several practices this week in Sherbrooke before another pre-season game Thursday against the Toronto Argonauts.
