The town of Rosemere is celebrating Olympic Golden Boy Alex Bilodeau.

The first Canadian to win Olympic gold on home turf received a hero's welcome in his home town on Tuesday, complete with red carpet, a signing ceremony at city hall, and cheers from hundreds of fans.

Bilodeau's day began with a trip to city hall, where he signed the city's official register.

He then walked across the street to the arena, where hundreds of children had the day off of school to greet the freestyle skiing champion, who walked in accompanied by a pyrotechnic display.

Once at the arena, Bilodeau was brought to tears when he learned a city park would be named after him.

The honours continued with a guest appearance from another sporting champion with ties to Rosemere: Guy Lafleur.

Lafleur and Bilodeau then took a trip in a helicopter, where they were able to see the people of Rosemere had reproduced the Olympic rings.

The fun continued in the afternoon, with a trip to Lafleur's restaurant in Rosemere.
