MONTREAL -- A LaSalle woman died in hospital Tuesday morning after police found her unconscious in her residence over the weekend.
Montreal Police (SPVM) responded to a call Saturday morning to the LaSalle residence on Des Oblats street.
Officers found 29-year-old Rebekah Harry unconscious. She was immediately rushed to hospital.
A 32-year-old man described by police as her boyfriend was taken into custody and initially charged with aggravated assault and breaking conditions.
Const. Raphael Bergeron says an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. He added it will be up to the Crown to decide on upgrading the charges.
Police believe incident to be a case of domestic abuse.
Advocates for victims of domestic violence are expressing concern with the rising number of women who have been killed by their partners this year in the province.
"These situations are not normal," said Myrna Dawson of the Canadian Femicide Observatory for Justice & Accountability.
"There's typically only one individual who ends up dead at the end of it, and that's the female partner."
At least six women have been killed by their partners in Quebec in 2021, not including the victim who died Tuesday.
