Battery factory south of Montreal engulfed in flames
A battery recycling plant in Sainte-Catherine, a municipality south of Montreal in the Montérégie, was engulfed in flames Sunday night.
Firefighters received a 911 call at 8:25 p.m. about the fire at 1200 Garnier St. near Hébert Boulevard.
Dozens of firefighters battled the blaze, with officials noting the commercial building was "very large."
Firefighters say they do not know how the fire started, but add they have reason to believe it was due to cardboard in the warehouse and not batteries.
There were no reported injuries and no toxic spread, according to authorities.
