So far work to build the new Turcot Interchange has involved lots of construction.

That changes in July, and the preparation work for the demolition of one bridge begins this weekend.

St. Jacques St. just south of the superhospital will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday June 3 until 5 a.m. on Monday June 6.

Traffic will be banned from De Courcelle St./Glen Rd. to Girouard Ave.

However drivers exiting the Ville Marie will be able to use the St. Jacques St. exit in order to reach the hospital grounds.

Decarie Blvd. will also be open between De Maisonneuve West and St. Jacques, in order to reach the hospital and other area businesses.

If the weather forecast takes a turn for the wet, the work may be delayed until the following weekend.

Two full weekends of no traffic

Crews will take down the St. Jacques St. bridge over the Decarie Expressway in July, and that will mean a complete closure of a large section of the Turcot Interchange and Highways 15 and 20.

The first weekend of July, the ramps from the 720 West and Highway 20 East to Highway 15 North will be closed overnight as crews prepare for the demolition.

The following two weekends every lane of Highway 15 will be closed from Friday evening until Monday morning, along with multiple other ramps in the interchange.

Crews will be working around the clock to destroy half of the St. Jacques Bridge and lower it, chunk by chunk, to trucks that will haul away the debris.

The work to demolish the rest of the bridge will take place in the fall, and will also require the complete closure of access to Highway 15 north for two full weekends.
