Demonstrators gathered outside Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s riding office in Papineau on Sunday to denounce what they called an Islamophobic backlash against refugees and migrants.

The group Solidarity Across Borders said it wants Canada to open its doors to many more immigrants from the Middle East and around the world and that the allotted space for Syrians is not enough.

This week, the first of groups of the 25,000 immigrants from Syria that Trudeau vowed to take in began arriving in Canada.

The protesters said they also want Canada to recognize the status of hundreds of thousands of undocumented migrants already living here.
