It is somewhat comforting to know that I am not alone. Most Quebecers agree that this Marois government is disastrous and downright dangerous.
In a CROP poll for La Presse 69 percent of Quebecers say they are not happy with the PQ government. That's after only nine months.
According to the pollster “there is a confusion about where this government is going. The PQ blows hot and cold without any direction.”
I couldn't have said it better myself.
As for Madame Marois, a whopping 11 percent think she is the best choice for Premier. I am surprised it’s that high.
I think one of this government’s biggest problems is that it never accepted its minority status and it has no idea how to play with the other kids.
It never accepted the fact they were only elected because the Liberals outwore their welcome.
The PQ has reignited the language debate looking for problems where none exist: a witchhunt of anglos and anything non-francophone.
Their Bill 14 is a mean-spirited attempt to remove rights and to further entrench minorities as second-class citizens. Half the world now thinks pasta is illegal in Quebec.
The PQ is engaging in identity politics at every opportunity. Nous autres versus les autres.
The economy has gone into the tank. Just ask anyone who runs a business in Quebec. Times are tough.
When the government prefers to talk about separation rather than jobs, you know we are in trouble.
On top of that almost 200,000 people are off the job in the first construction strike in 23 years.
Is this sound management?
The PQ’s grandiose scheme to be a proactive government is something called sovereignist governance --forgetting that two thirds of us did not vote for them or separation, yet they act like they are running a separate country.
The government has set up a roving commission to find fault with the changes to federal employment insurance, a commission headed by Gilles Duceppe with his gold-plated federal pension; a commission which will find Ottawa is at fault.
It is establishing another new committee to uncover ways Ottawa is interfering in Quebec affairs, which again will find Ottawa is at fault.
It has another commission up and running which will investigate what happened in the red square riots last year which will blame the Liberals.
And the cherry on the sundae: It will pay for study on sovereignty in sports. Yes, another priority of this government will be make sure the fleur de lys is on the sweaters of Quebecers when they play around the world.
These are their priorities.
We are stagnating under the weight of high taxes, the highest debt load in the country and ground zero for corruption in Canada and this is the best they can do.
We are hurting in Quebec and most of all in Montreal where there is a crisis of confidence in the city and a cold wind of alienation coming from Quebec City.
Despite everything though it is still home and there is much to celebrate about living here. That is surely why we endure.
Although on some days you got to admit, it's tough finding the love.
