Need to renew your passport? Prepare to wait.
Passport Canada offices have been experiencing extremely long lineups this summer. While summer is always a peak period for renewals, this season is off the charts because this month marks the five-year anniversary of new rules between Canada and the U.S., requiring Canadians to use passports when travelling to the States.
So anyone who got their passports then will have to renew them now.
Passport Canada advises anyone planning to travel to check their passport to ensure it’sstill up to date.
If it isn't, consider making the application by mail to avoid lengthy lineups. It takes about 10 business days to get your passport after making your application in person, and 20 days after making the application by mail.
Passport Canada said at this time, those deadlines are still being respected.
