Former Bloc Quebecois MP Francine Lalonde has died.
Lalonde was first elected to the House of Commons in 1993 when the Bloc swept into official opposition.
She represented her riding in east-end Montreal until 2010 when she stepped down saying the cancer she had battled before had returned.
During the 1980s she briefly served as a cabinet minister under Rene Levesque.
During her time in Ottawa, Lalonde was a fierce advocate for assisted suicide.
Francine Lalonde was 73 years old.
