MONTREAL—Flames poured from the second floor of the building housing Notre-Dame-de-Grace’s breakfast spot Benedicts on Sunday night as firefighters fought to douse the blaze.

The fire started at the intersection of Monkland Ave. and Royal Ave. just after 10 p.m. While there are businesses on the first floor of the building, residents were evacuated from the second and third floor apartments.

According to the Montreal fire department, the flames started in the ceiling between the first and second floors.

While no one was injured, 90 firefighters were needed to put out the blaze. The fire was brought under control by 1 a.m.

The extent of the damage to the building and popular restaurant are unknown at this time.
