A cyclist is in hospital in critical condition after being struck by a van in the Ville Marie borough on Friday morning.
The accident happened at 9:45 a.m. in front of 1717 Berri St. The 18-year-old cyclist was going south in the bike line when the van, which was heading south on Berri, turned right into an alley leading into the parking lot of the Bibliotheque Nationale.
"It looks like the cyclist lost control or fell from his bike and slid or rolled under the track," said SPVM spokesperson Andre Leclerc. "Sadly, the truck went over him, the rear right wheel of the truck passed over him."
The cyclist went under the wheels of the vehicle but police said he was talking in the ambulance while being transported to hospital.
It's the second crash involving a cyclist in Montreal this week. On Monday, a 24-year-old woman was hit by a truck making a right turn at the corner of Iberville and Rosemont. She was declared dead at the scene.
