MONTREAL - The Montreal Canadiens have agreed a contract extension of six seasons with forward Brendan Gallagher.

The team made the announcement Saturday before facing the Buffalo Sabres. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed, but according to several media outlets, the average annual value of the contract would be US $ 3.75 million.

Gallagher, 22, is now under contract with the Canadiens until the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

Fifth-round pick in 2010, 147th overall, the player from Edmonton scored 81 points (39 goals, 42 assists) in 149 regular season career games since joining the NHL in 2012-2013. He recorded 13 points (six goals, seven assists) in 22 playoff games.

In 24 games this season, Gallagher has 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists).
