MONTREAL- Several Montreal boroughs have responded to the sudden arrival of large, metal charity clothing boxes placed near city streets throughout the island.
The boroughs of Cote-des-Neiges/NDG, Dorval, Ahuntsic-Cartierville and St. Laurent have contacted the organizations responsible for the boxes in the aims of having them removed.
The Quebec Foundation for Developmental Disabilities, (FQDI) is one of the charities that have put bins out and are now being asked to remove them.
“We've received several letters from various boroughs asking us to remove or relocate our bins,” said director Philippe Siebes. “I understand why, I mean, visually speaking, it's pollution.”
The St. Laurent borough even gave the group 10 days to remove the 11 bins it has on private properties - with the landowners’ consent – within the borough.
The St. Laurent borough mayor said that the borough might be willing to wait a bit longer for the charity to remove them.
“I'm glad to see that my staff works that quickly,” said Borough Mayor Alan DeSousa. “So that's a good sign and it means that in St Laurent we're quite efficient but at the same time we are sensitive to some of these issues.
“If it's on the public domain we're asking it to be removed, if it's on a private domain we will listen to what people have to say,” said DeSousa.
