The man who founded Projet Montreal has quit his party to sit as an independent city councillor.
Richard Bergeron, who made three unsuccessful attempts to be elected mayor, will now sit on the Executive Committee for the city of the Montreal.
Mayor Denis Coderre said Bergeron's role will be to oversee development in the downtown core.
Bergeron, an urban planner, said he will be focusing on a project to cover the eastern section of the Ville-Marie Expressway and implementing a tram system in Montreal,
The interim leader of Projet Montreal, Luc Ferrandez, issued a statement thanking Bergeron yet calling the Executive Committee "clearly lacking in vision."
