A West Island hockey coach has been suspended for ordering 11- and 12-year-old players to do hundreds of push ups after losing a game.

The incident happened on Sept. 18 when the Lac St. Louis AAA peewee team lost 7-2 to DDO.

Coach Louis Isabella reportedly ordered his players to do at least 100 push ups, with some reports the players had to do 350 or 500.

Players and parents are not talking to the media, but complaints were filed and the coach was suspended.

Hockey Quebec issued a statement that it strongly disagrees with the coach's action, and does not think it's appropriate to make young children do that type of practice.

Isabella, who has been coaching children's hockey for 20 years, will face a disciplinary board next week.
