Quebec's anti-corruption squad says it made a record number of arrests this year in its ongoing battle against corruption in the province.
To date the squad has arrested 66 people suspected of fraud, conspiracy, and similar crimes.
Those arrested include former Laval mayor Gilles Vaillancourt, interim Montreal mayor Michael Applebaum, and most recently four men accused of attempting to bribe the mayor of Chateauguay.
The public is getting behind UPAC, offering the special division more than 1200 tips this year alone about possible corrupt activities performed by elected officials or those trying to influence them.
The permanent squad is also absorbing Montreal's anti-corruption unit EPIM, meaning 320 people will be investigating and building cases against corrupt officials.
Since the creation of UPAC the team has arrested 118 people and seized $30 million
