MONTREAL - The group of candidates aiming to replace Michael Applebaum as interim mayor doubled again Thursday as Lachine City Councillor Jane Cowell-Poitras and City Council Speaker Harout Chitilian tossed their hats into the ring.

On Wednesday, Projet Montreal's Francois Croteau and St-Laurent Borough Mayor Alan De Sousa both announced that they’d like the job as well.

Those candidates are not to be confused with the candidates for the November mayoralty race, which currently includes Louise Harel, Denis Coderre and Melanie Jolie among others.

Cowell-Poitras is the deputy mayor and is acting as mayor until the interim mayor is chosen next Tuesday.

Chitilian says he has an interest in becoming Montreal's long-term mayor, but not in 2013.

It is possible that Chair of the Montreal Executive Committee Laurent Blanchard could also run to become mayor for 130 days.

Montreal voters will chose a new, longer-term mayor on November 3.
