A man was found on the ground near St-Dominique St. and de Maisonneuve Blvd., close to the St. Laurent metro station at around 4 a.m., Sunday.
The 48-year-old victim had been stabbed to his upper body and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
He died of his injuries in hospital.
A woman nearby is being considered witness to the altercation -- she described a suspect to police, and will be questioned further on Sunday.
The Montreal police are actively searching for the suspect, a 35-year-old black man who is known to police.
This incident marks the city’s third homicide of the year.
