Seven people hit by a vehicle during a brawl in Rosemont
Seven people were hit by a vehicle during a brawl between a group of individuals that got out of hand in Montreal.
The incident occurred during a party at a reception hall on rue Bélanger, near 6th Avenue, in the Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie borough.
A conflict allegedly started inside at around 3:25 a.m. on Sunday and escalated outside.
“At the scene, police officers located two injured people on the pavement. They were taken to hospital, but there is no fear for their lives," said Constable Véronique Dubuc, spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).
Five other injured people were reported about 30 minutes later.
“Another 911 call was made to inform the police that five other people connected with the event had taken themselves to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” explained another SPVM spokeswoman, Caroline Chèvrefils.
The victims are men and women aged between 29 and 47.
The motive for the attack is still unknown but is part of the SPVM's ongoing investigation.
“According to initial information obtained by police officers on the scene, the incident involved a conflict that degenerated during a gathering in a hall. People got out and a vehicle hit seven people before fleeing the scene,” Dubuc said.
A security perimeter was set up to protect the scene, and forensic identification technicians were called to the scene. The area was reopened to traffic at around 6:30 a.m.
It is not known whether the victims are related to the assailant.
The driver of the vehicle is still being sought.
