The Riverside School Board says it will cut 34 positions as it makes the budget cuts demanded by the Ministry of Education.
That's equivalent to 24 full-time positions according to Director General Sylvain Racette.
Some people are tenured and will be able to bump into other positions but the majority are not and will lose their jobs.
Riverside is cutting 12 manager positions, which it says follows previous management cuts. Support staff at the board are being eliminated, as are support positions in high schools.
Two spiritual animators will lose their positions, as will three high school vice-principals.
In addition two elementary schools will now share a principal because the board will not replace a principal who retired.
Chairman of the Board Dan Lamoureux said there will be more cuts to come.
"It's not a pleasant exercise at all. It's unfortunate that the government has been cutting so much," said Lamoureux.
"Right now we spend 4.5 percent for administrative fees so most of the money goes directly into teaching, to support for our students, for whatever we can for our students: special needs, especially special needs."
Several parents have told CTV Montreal they are angry about the cuts and plan to write their MNAs.
Riverside Board said those parents are right to be angry.
