Political analyst Jean Lapierre doesn't think that Gerald Tremblay will resign his post as mayor of Montreal when he returns from his self-imposed long weekend.
"I don't think he will resign and frankly he hasn't been accused of anything specifically," said Lapierre.
I think by next week he has to come out with a statement about his own integrity and secondly about the future of his career. I think he owes it to Montrealers, but I don't think he will resign."
Don Macpherson says that the key question is whether anyone -- including Tremblay -- can be an effective mayor until next year's election.
"He was already a lame duck because of the fact he is in the last year of his term, and now he seems to be a walking dead duck from the political point of view," said Macpherson.
But is anyone waiting in the wings?
A poll shows Montrealers don't much like either opposition leader, with a poll showing Projet Montreal's Richard Bergeron and Vision Montreal's Louise Harel have the support of just 14 and 13 percent of the electorate respectively.
The pundits say that leaves an opportunity for someone like Liberal MP Denis Coderre.
