Firefighters were called to a two-alarm fire at Hotel Dieu Hospital Wednesday afternoon.

The fire started in the wall of an auditorium at the hospital’s the hospital's Jeanne Mance pavilion on St. Urbain St. near Pine Ave. around 4 p.m.

About 60 firefighters were called to the scene.

No buildings had to be evacuated and hospital patients and staff were not injured.

The fire caused about $50,000 in damage. The cause is under investigation, but a preliminary hypothesis is that construction at the hospital may have played a role.

Police closed St. Urbain south of Rachel St. while crews worked on the fire.
