A Montreal woman has been ordered to pay $40,000 for pretending to be a nurse.

A Quebec court judge has found Kim Larouche guilty of impersonating a registered nurse and delivering care.

In 2009, the 33-year-old worked at Lakeshore General and Jean-Talon Hospital for 20 days, via a placement agency.

It was only five years later, in 2014, that someone in the woman's entourage alerted the Quebec Order of Nurses.

“The permit number is public information, and also [makes it easier] for employers to check out if the person has the right permit number. But in this case, we can't stop someone who wakes up one morning and decides to misrepresent herself and does everything in her power to do so, a fake CV and everything. That is something we've never seen,” said lawyer Louise Laurendeau, speaking on behalf of the order.

The order says it's reviewing its procedures.
