MONTREAL – On the day the interim mayor of Montreal was arrested, a new candidate has thrown her hat into the ring.

Lawyer and public relations professional Melanie Joly announced her candidacy at Pointe-à-Callière Museum Monday morning.

“I do not accept seeing the city I love dragged into contempt, stagnation and corruption. I think Montrealers no longer recognize their city and its administration. I think Montrealers are stronger than partisan politics,” said Joly, 34, who also writes for Huffington Post and La Presse+.

"If experience means letting go adrift by political parties who have their eyes closed, then experience is not an argument," she said.
