A second round of public hearings into a planned upgrade to Hydro-Quebec towers in Dollard-Des-Ormeaux were held on Tuesday night.

Many people in the packed crowd expressed opposition to the planned $100 million upgrade, which would see a row of small towers replaced with much larger ones that carry three times the voltage.

Opponents have said they are concerned about the impact the upgrade could have on public health, as well as the look of the larger pylons.

"They're running these lines through the heart of Dollard, along a corridor that has close to 400 homes on either side and they are running a James Bay-type line through the centre of our town," said D.D.O. city councillor Morris Vesely. "We didn't bargain for this."
