Gilles Vaillancourt, the former mayor of Laval, is no longer challenging an accusation of gangsterism.
Vallaincourt, along with his co-accused Claude Asselin and Claude Deguise, were due in court Wednesday because they were hoping to dismiss the charges against them.
The trio were due to have a preliminary hearing begin on Sept. 4.
Instead they will proceed directly to trial at a date that has yet to be established.
Vaillancourt, Asselin and Deguise are accused of masterminding a criminal organization that defrauded taxpayers in Laval by manipulating contracts over two decades.
Among the 32 other accused are Tony Accurso, the well-known former construction magnate who faces multiple charges of fraud and corruption.
Vaillancourt resigned his post on Nov. 9, 2012, and he, along with the dozens others of accused, were charged in May 2013.
