Dozens of people marched in St. Henri on Sunday in support of safe and affordable housing.
The gathering, which was organized by a coalition of housing committees and tenant's associations, was held on Tenant's Day.
In a statement, group spokesperson Isabelle Monast-Landriault called on the Liberal government to do more to protect tenant’s rights.
"We are using Tenant's Day to remind the government it must protect the poor through measures such as mandatory rent control," she said.
St. Henri has seen a surge of expensive condos being built in recent years, many of which have replaced low-cost apartment buildings.
The march ended in front of the riding office of Dominique Anglade, Quebec’s minister of economic development.
