Fire people were hurt overnight by a fire at plastic packaging plant in Chateauguay.
The fire broke out around 1 a.m. Monday in the warehouse for Salerno Packaging Canada on Ford Blvd. near Cascades.
About 20 people were in the factory which makes plastic pellets and bags. Five of them were overcome by smoke and were taken to Anna Laberge hospital to be treated for their injuries. All are expected to survive.
Employees tried to put out the fire themselves using fire extinguishers and hoses, but firefighters were needed to finally extinguish the flames around 2 a.m.
The cause of the fire is not known.
Damage to the building and material is estimated at $100,000.
