A couple of hundred demonstrators voiced their opposition to what they described as “racism and the charter of values” in a march that kicked off outside the Mount Royal metro station at 6 p.m. Friday.
The anti-Bill 60 demonstration was organized by a coalition of groups, including an organization from Concordia University, and No One is Illegal, as well as several student groups, including the ASSE, as well as the South Asian Women’s Cultural Centre, among others.
Several aboriginal groups were also slated to be involved in the protest against the PQ's proposed legislation on religious clothing in the provincial workplace.
The marchers went west on Mount Royal to Park, south to Sherbrooke and west to McGill College Avenue where they convened in front of the premier's office without major incident reported before finally ending at around 8:45 p.m.
Police made no arrests and gave out no fines even though organizers failed to supply an itinerary, as required by a city bylaw.
