MONTREAL - Transport Canada is tuning into citizen concerns surrounding the upcoming construction of a new Champlain Bridge, slated to begin in 2017 and end in 2021.

Residents at the Sunday meeting expressed concern about noise and dust associated with the giant work, which will take place next to the existing span.

Transport Canada representative Marc Brazeau said that eight areas will be protected by anti-noise walls.

They are also trying to reduce the impact on citizens and the environment, such as the spawning areas below the bridge.

“The goal is to make sure we have no work in the water in the very sensitive areas,” said Transport Canada representative Vincent Jarry.
