CAQ, Quebec City to make announcement about tramway
François Legault's government and Quebec City officials are slated to make an "important announcement" Monday morning about the city's tramway project.
The various parties had until Sunday to come to a formal agreement.
Expected to attend the press conference are Transport Minister Geneviève Guilbault, the minister responsible for the Capitale-Nationale region Jonatan Julien, Quebec City Mayor Bruno Marchand and CDPQ Infra President and CEO Jean-Marc Arbaud.
Last October, the Quebec government entrusted the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec with the design and construction of the project's first phase, including a 19 km route linking the Le Gendre sector to Charlesbourg.
The tramway is expected to pass through Sainte-Foy, Université Laval, Parliament Hill and Saint-Roch.
CDPQ Infra, who is in charge of phase one, is also in charge of building the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) in Montreal, among other projects.
The deadline for a final agreement between all parties was set for Sunday, Dec. 15 and depending on how things go, operations of the future tramway could be entrusted to another partner, the Réseau de transport de la Capitale.
Ten days ago, Guilbault gave encouraging signs about the negotiations.
“I want to reassure everyone that things are going according to plan. We're very confident about reaching an agreement by Dec. 15,” she said during Question Period at the National Assembly on Dec. 6.
The press conference is slated for 10:45 a.m. Monday.
