MONTREAL—Laval Mayor Alexandre Duplessis suspended two of the city’s top employees on Friday when he learned they were called to disclose potentially damaging information at the Charbonneau Commission.

City Manager Gaetan Turbide and assistant Jean Roberge were put on ice after warning the mayor that their upcoming testimony at the anti-corruption inquiry would centre on the awarding of city contracts.

The mayor was concerned the testimony would create problems for city council if they remain in their positions.

Assistant city manager Gaetan Vandal will replace both men during their indefinite suspensions.
