MONTREAL—An appeal to the controversial ruling in the Guy Turcotte case will be heard on Sept. 30.
Turcotte stabbed his two children to death in February 2009. In July 2011, the former cardiologist was found not criminally responsible for their deaths. The crown has appealed that verdict on the grounds that the trial judge erred in his instructions to the jury.
If the Quebec Court of Appeal agrees, Turcotte will have to face a new trial. Turcotte was released from the Pinel Institute last Dec.
