A dozen teachers representing English school boards staged a small but literate protest Thursday morning in front of the premier's office.

They used spray chalk to inscribe messages on the sidewalk in front of 770 Sherbrooke St. West.

Those messages read "We need to talk," "We need to talk about our kids," and "We need to talk about our future."

The teachers said they did not want to cause any vandalism, and pointed out chalk will dissolve in water.

The unions that make up the Quebec Provincial Association of Teachers are, like many provincial unions, in negotiations with the provincial government.

Like the Common Front they have abandoned plans to hold a general strike in December -- although their counterparts at French School Boards in Quebec, who belong to the FAE, have confirmed they will hold a strike on Dec. 9, 10, and 11.
