Two people are injured after a vehicle collided with a CN merchandise train in Longueuil, on Montreal's South Shore, early Monday morning.

Longueuil police (SPAL) received a 911 call at 3 a.m. about the incident on Guimond Boulevard and de la Métropole Street.

The driver, a man in his 20s, fled the scene after the crash, according to Melanie Mercille, a spokesperson with Longueuil police.

"He eventually came back to the car. He was arrested for fleeing and impaired driving," she notes. "The passenger, a woman in her 20s, stayed in the car."

The two suffered injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening.

Longueuil police is asking residents to avoid the area to allow investigators to do their jobs.
