MONTREAL - A busy part of the Plateau streetscape was turned into a watery mess Wednesday morning at around 6:45 a.m. when a water main broke near Papineau and Mount-Royal.

Montreal's public works department has dispatched a team to find the cause of the break, which left Papineau St. reduced to one lane in each direction.

Mount-Royal St. East was narrowed to one lane eastbound near the intersection. Drivers traveling west were diverted left onto Papineau.

The problem caused serious traffic disruptions and officials are hoping to have it repaired by 4 p.m. to avoid another rush hour headache.
