MONTREAL—The SWAT team was called out and a large security perimeter was extended after first responders found what they thought could be a bomb in a Montreal North car. The offending package was found to be a battery charger.

A call was made to 911 at around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday claiming that someone could be attempting to commit suicide in their car. Firefighters found no one in the grey BMW, but they did find a package they thought was suspicious.

The Montreal police SWAT team was called out to the corner of Albert-Hudon Blvd. and Marie-Victorin St. near CEGEP Marie-Victorin. The Montreal police warned that the massive police operation could last hours.

A few moments later, they confirmed that the device was recharging the car’s battery.
