Number of Quebec wildfires rises to 164, at least 114 are out of control

The number of forest fires continues to rise in Quebec, while evacuation orders are being maintained for several areas of Sept-Îles, on the North Shore. Minister of Employment and Minister responsible for the North Shore region Kateri Champagne Jourdain said on Monday morning that 164 forest fires were currently burning across Quebec, compared with 156 the previous day.

WEATHER WARNING | Smog warning in effect in Montreal due to Quebec wildfires

Air quality remains a concern in regions throughout Quebec, including the Greater Montreal area which is currently under a smog warning. Environment and Climate Change Canada issued smog warnings for the Greater Montreal Area, and special air quality statements are in effect for large portions of the province due to the growing number of forest fires.

Quebec will spend $57.5 million to support social pediatrics centres

In response to recommendations of the Laurent Commission, Quebec is announcing $57.5 million in support for the network of community-based social pediatric centres. At a news conference on Monday morning at the La Ruelle d'Hochelaga community social pediatric centre, Minister for Families Suzanne Roy and Social Services Minister Lionel Carmant made the announcement.
