There was no shortage of green, from the costumes, to the flags, balloons and beer as thousands of people came out to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at the annual parade Sunday.

“All the lovely kids and families on the street and it's just fabulous, it's great great great,” said Parade Grand Marshall Paul Quinn.

The parade travelled east on Ste. Catherine St. through the downtown core and featured 108 participants. Mayor Denis Coderre, Star Wars characters, marching bands and plenty of little leprechauns-for-a-day came out to take in the festivities.

In its 193rd year, the Montreal parade is the longest running parade in Canada. It was the third and biggest St. Patrick's parade held in the Montreal area – the Chateauguay parade was last week and the Hudson parade took place Saturday.
