Surete du Quebec officer Guillaume St. Louis was formally charged Tuesday in connection with an arrest he made in 2014.

During the arrest in Joliette last December, the police officer allegedly used excessive force involving his telescopic baton and pepper spray.

An investigation began in January following a complaint from the victim.

He faces charges of assault with a weapon, assault with a weapon causing bodily harm and careless use of a firearm.

St. Louis is currently suspended with pay. He will be back in court Nov. 30.
