As Oct. 19 draws nearer, Elections Canada is pulling out the stops to improve voter turnout, particularly among the young.

Special voting offices set up until Thursday in a pilot project on some university and CEGEP campuses and youth centres to make the voting process more accessible.

While all eligible voters can cast their ballots there, the target is young adults 18 to 24.

“If you're Canadian, if you're 18 and you have your proper pieces of ID, you can vote here,” explained Stephanie Campagna of Elections Canada.

“By opening those extra days for them to vote and by being closer to them on campus, we're hoping that really they'll be able to cast their ballot.”

It's all about easier access, said Campagna, so people don't have to wait in line the day of, or be in their riding, for their voice to count.

If you choose to do it this way, beware it's not your typical ballot.

“It's a blank ballot on it you have to write down the name of the candidate that you choose. The full name of the candidate that you choose and not the political party,” said Campagna.

There are 15 special voting polling stations set up across Quebec, including on McGill and Concordia campuses.

“If you have the right to vote in this country, we are going to do whatever we can to help facilitate it,” said Chris Mota, media relations officer of Concordia University.
