The two brothers shot and killed Monday in LaSalle were known to have connections to the West End gang.
Jamie Laramee, 37, and his brother Cody, 25, were shot and killed Monday while sitting inside the Nite Lite bar in LaSalle.
The West End gang reportedly has a strong foothold in smuggling drugs through the Port of Montreal. Criminal analysts say the Matticks family, which runs the gang, routinely has members working in the Port in order to bring drug shipments into Canada.
By some accounts just one percent of shipments through the port are examined by customs officials.
The older brother had a criminal record, serving two years in prison for manslaughter after beating Michael Pugliese to death in 1999. Pietro D'Adamo was also sentenced for that attack -- and he is currently serving a six-year sentence for cocaine smuggling.
Cody had a previous conviction for possessing an restricted weapon.
Double-murder on Monday
The Laramee brothers were shot and killed Monday at a bar on Newman Blvd. in LaSalle.
Another man was shot but survived. Police are not releasing his name, and have not said if he has any connection to the two other victims.
Many people who live near the bar say it's often the scene of fights and other disturbances, but never anything so violent.
