Pink flowers mark the place where Samantha Higgins was last seen alive. Pink, the same colour as the dress she was wearing when she vanished at some point after being spotted at a McDonald’s in LaSalle, where she lived.

Higgins was reported missing July 6. Her body was found in Hinchinbrooke Friday. Her devastated family is trying to cope with their loss, but finding it close to impossible.

“The autopsy is being done today so I’m waiting for that call, which is going to be a very hard call for me to hear exactly how she passed,” said her mother Vanessa Higgins.

Higgins leaves behind a three-month-old baby and a little girl who will turn four this Wednesday – children who will grow up not knowing their mother.

Family friends have set up two Go Fund Me websites to help.

“We're trying to raise some money for my grandchildren to help them with the loss of their mom, so if anybody is able to donate even $5 it's going to help with a baby, clothing diapers, anything at all,” Vanessa Higgins said.

An open visitation will be held at Feron's funeral home on Notre Dame St. West this weekend. Anyone would like to come is invited to show up between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday to pay their respects.

Both the SQ and the Montreal police said they are still working on the case but they had no further comment on the status of the investigation.

Meanwhile, Samantha’s mother says the support they have received has helped them through immeasurable grief.

“I would also like to say thank you to the public and my family and friends for all of their help and support in trying to find Sam and all their support when we did and for taking down the posters. It’s greatly greatly appreciated. I can't express what that means to me,” she said.
