The RCMP have arrested two Ottawa men and charged them with terrorism offences.

Carlos Lamond, 24, was arrested in Montreal at Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport, “as he was intending to travel overseas for terrorist purposes,” according to an RCMP news release.

He has been charged with participation in the activity of a terrorist group and attempting to leave Canada to participate in terrorist activity abroad.

Ashton Carleton Lamond, also 24, was arrested in Ottawa and charged with facilitating terrorist activity, participation in the activity of a terrorist group and for instructing to carry out activity for a terrorist group.

The men share a birthday but it was not immediately clear whether they are related.
