Florence Martin and Chloe Emond are not just rowing partners, they’re best friends.

“Florence and me are really close friends,” said Chloe. “We always have the same schedule. We do everything. We travel together, we do the same sport, same activities and we went to the same school.”

The they're always together, and a lot of that time is spent at Laval Rowing Club.

“We met in secondary one at College Laval, and since that time, we’ve been together all the time, because we row six times a week at the Laval Rowing Club and also we are in the same class and we have the same friends so we are almost every time together,” said Florence.

Seldom do you see one without the other, and seeing them is a pleasure for Daniel Aucoin, from the club.

“We've known Florence and Chloe for four to five years and it's good to have them around. They're good girls, smiling girls and they share a passion with other rowers and are always ready to help. They're good rowers, good athletes, but good people, too,” he said, adding that the future for both young athletes is very bright.

“The rowers that are good at 18, you can see who is going to be real good and who is kind of at their limit, and they are not at their limit yet. Believe me they have many good years to come with them.”

Both girls hope so, because they have their sights set on the Canada Games next year, the nationals the following year, and after that…

“I would like to go to the Olympics with Chloe,” laughed Florence.

That’s not such a joke, said Aucoin, who sees it as a possibility.

“If you want to make it, you train three times a day, every day. You eat and sleep it. That's what you do.  So if that is (their) choice, then they will make it. They can make it,” he said
